 Financing Innovation:

There are a number of different contractual ways to finance an innovation:

        • R&D under contract : Télémaq develops technologies, products and product functions for third parties. The contractual agreement includes a clause of confidentiality and the intellectual property belongs to the client who finances the innovation.

        • Co-Development : In this scenario, Télémaq assumes part of the development costs associated with innovation.  The partner assumes full responsibility for the commercialisation of the product.  Télémaq’s return on investment is realised through the intellectual property or partial manufacturing.

        • Technology transfer: Télémaq researches the different technologies available in the marketplace on behalf of third parties.  This activity requires a knowledge of the technical, legal and economic aspects of the different technologies.  Télémaq is paid for its expertise on a commission basis when the technology transfer occurs.

        • Funding proposals : Télémaq can prepare funding proposals seeking total or partial funding for innovation from a range of different sources – EU programmes, regional innovation initiatives, ESA (European Space Agency), ANVAR (the French Agency for Innovation operating under the aegis of the Ministry for Industry, SMEs and Research), etc.…

 Concept Generation:

This module is aimed at providing the information to make informed decisions on the possible and available technologies by preparing a range of different concept alternatives. The process addresses questions such as:

        • Where are the innovation options?
        • What are the different technologies that could provide a solution?
        • Are these technologies available?
        • Should they be adapted?
        • Should they be integrated?
        • Are these thechnologies free to be exploited?
        • Who currently uses them? …

A range of different tools can be employed in reaching answers to these questions: a technology survey, analysis of bibliographical and patent information, research on technologies available for transfer, methodologies for problem solving in innovation or evaluation of emerging technologies.

 Global Design:

The objective of this module is to design global solutions taking into consideration both the required specifications and the different technological constraints. The module addresses the following types of questions:

        • Is the proposed concept feasible?
        • Does it really respond to the specifications and needs?
        • Are all the functions considered?
        • At what cost?
        • Are regulatory requirements satisfied?

The design tools used include mechanical and electronic CAD, computer simulation and analysis and the software laboratory (micro-controllers, DSP, wireless communication, sensors and actuators…).

 Validation using Prototypes:

The focus of this module is to validate the design through real tests in order to ensure that the functions conform to the requirements identified.  This module involves the production of mechanical, electronic and plastic models and prototypes as appropriate. Plastics moulding is largely undertaken using techniques (such as stereolithography and vacuum casting) for the rapid production of prototypes.  The models are created based on a specifications sent by Internet in STL, IGES or Gerber format.  Functional tests, calibrations and temperature tests are carried out by Télémaq (climatic chamber, electromechanical test bench). In assignments where the demonstrations are commissioned by the marketing or general administration departments of the client company, particular attention is paid to the appearance, the design outline and ergonomics..

 Preparation for Large Scale Production:

The objective of this module is to create the manufacturing specification which includes the manufacturing plans, nomenclatures, source code, potential suppliers and the projected costs for large scale production.
